TalkTypeAI ("we", "us", "our") is a Windows desktop dictation application. We take your privacy seriously and have designed the app to collect as little data as possible. This policy explains exactly what data we collect, why we collect it, how it is used, and your rights.
Short version: We collect your email address and word usage count. Your audio is sent to a transcription API and immediately discarded — it is never stored by us. We use no cookies and have no advertising trackers on this website.
We collect only what is necessary to provide the service:
We do not collect: your name, physical address, phone number, transcription content, browser fingerprint, IP address logs, behavioral analytics, or any other personal data.
Your audio is never stored. When you dictate, the audio is captured locally on your device and sent directly to Groq's Whisper API for transcription. The resulting text is returned to your app and typed into your active window. We do not receive, log, or retain the audio or the transcription text at any point. Once the API call completes, the audio buffer is discarded from memory.
Groq's use of audio data submitted via their API is governed by Groq's Privacy Policy. As of the date of this policy, Groq does not use API-submitted audio to train models.
The transcribed text appears only in the application you are typing into on your local machine. TalkTypeAI has no visibility into what you dictate.
TalkTypeAI uses magic link authentication. When you sign in, we send a one-time login link to your email address. We do not use passwords. The login link expires after 10 minutes and cannot be reused.
We store a session token locally on your device after a successful login. This token is used to authenticate subsequent requests (e.g., checking your word count). Session tokens are rotated regularly and can be revoked by signing out of the app.
Payments for Pro subscriptions are processed by Stripe, a PCI-DSS Level 1 certified payment processor. TalkTypeAI never receives or stores your credit card number, billing address, or any other payment card information.
When you subscribe, you interact directly with Stripe's secure checkout. Stripe provides us with a customer identifier and subscription status only. For details on how Stripe handles your payment data, see Stripe's Privacy Policy.
The TalkTypeAI website (talktypeai.com) does not use cookies, tracking pixels, analytics scripts, or any third-party advertising technologies. It is a static site with no session state.
The desktop app itself does not use cookies. It communicates with our backend API over HTTPS using a session token stored locally on your device.
We use the data we collect only for the following purposes:

Account data (email address, word count, subscription status) is stored on servers located in the United States. Data is encrypted in transit using TLS 1.2 or higher. Access to account data is restricted to authorized personnel and automated systems only.
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all stored data associated with your account is permanently deleted within 30 days.
